Mount Snowdon - Join our Team! *

On 7th June 2025 a group of avid supporters are taking on the challenge of trekking to the summit of Mount Snowdon … at night! Our team of enthusiastic ICP Support champions have one main aim - to raise as much money as possible for our small charity doing big work.

The highest mountain in England and Wales at 1085m, Snowdon's Welsh name is Yr Wyddfa, reputedly the burial place of a mythical giant.  A popular summit trek by day-time, it forms a real challenge by night.

We have a team of 14 so far and would love more of you to join us as we take on this physical challenge to raise vital funds for ICP Support!

Standing at the summit of Mount Snowdon by moonlight will be an unforgettable experience, as will seeing the sunrise from the mountain slopes as we descend. Witnessing the spectacular landscapes opening up before us as the day grows lighter will be a magical and unforgettable experience.

The base for this challenge is a friendly hotel, which makes for a comfortable, sociable start to our challenge as we tuck into fantastic food and get to know each other. At the end, we will gather back together in the warm, celebrate our overnight achievement with a slap-up buffet breakfast and reflect upon the positive impact our fundraising efforts will make to ICP Support.

This physical challenge is all about endurance, fitness and teamwork, but don't worry - everyone can complete the challenge at their own pace and achieve their personal goals; this is not a race! This is a team effort that enables people to achieve their goals and earn sponsorship – it's not about how fast you can walk it as an individual. It goes without saying that you need to be mentally prepared – self-belief and determination go a long way! Whilst we will be working together as a team and helping each other out during any difficulties, the enjoyment and rewards that come from experiencing Snowdon by night will be unforgettable!

We will meet at a hotel, which allows us the comfort of facilities and warmth before and after the challenge. After a hot drink and a full briefing it will be time to switch on our head-torches and set off on our exciting night challenge!

We will begin our ascent following the Llanberis Path, the most gradual route up Snowdon with good conditions underfoot, and therefore best suited for our challenge in the dark!  There is an initial steep section; after this our route will continue quite gradually. The path shows up quite easily most of the time under the torchlight. Trekking up at night is a very different experience than during the day; our senses will grow used to the darkness and we can enjoy the silence and the remoteness, and the views of the night sky arcing above us. After the Halfway House the gradient becomes steeper in places, but we will then know we're not far off the summit.  The funds we are raising for our small but mighty charity will push us to keep going until we reach the top, standing at 1085m high!

After some time to experience the summit (though it will probably be quite cold at the top!) we'll return to Llanberis the same way. The sky will start to lighten on our way down, and we may be able to enjoy the wonderful views over the Menai Strait towards Anglesey while we are still high enough to enjoy them. As the sun rises and lights up our surroundings, we'll be amazed by what we climbed in the dark!

The descent will be much quicker and less arduous, but still tiring and can be hard on the knees. We will return to our hotel for a big celebration breakfast! After saying our farewells to our fellow trekkers, we will finally head home, tired but very elated!

(Ascent approx. 5-7 hours; descent approx. 2-3 hours)
